Franciszka & Stefan Themerson
Library of Birmingham
14 – 26 April 2014

Exhibition of drawings, publications and archival material related to the legacy of the Themersons.

Stefan & Franciszka Themerson were the most important avant-garde film-makers in pre-war Poland. They were pioneers not only in experimental film, but also in literature, art, design and publishing. In London they became key figures on the post-war cultural scene, founding the Gaberbocchus Press. The exhibition featured Stefan + Franciszka, a documentary film about them by Professor Tomasz Pobóg-Malinowski.

Curated by Roma Piotrowska for PEA in collaboration with the Themerson Archive, GV Art Gallery and the Library of Birmingham, thanks to the support of the Polish Cultural Institute in London.
